An ironworks or iron works is a building or site where iron is smelted and where heavy iron and/or steel l products are made. The term is both singular and plural, i.e. the plural of ironworks is ironworks. An integrated ironworks in the 19th century usually included one or more blast furnaces and a number of pudding furnaces and/or a foundry with or without other kinds of ironworks A blacksmith is a person who creates objects from iron or steel by "forging" the metal; i.e., by using tools to hammer, bend, cut, and otherwise shape it in its non-liquid form. Usually the metal is heated until it glows red or orange as part of the forging process. Blacksmiths produce things like wrought iron gates, grills, railings, light fixtures, furniture, sculpture, tools, decorative and religious items, cooking utensils, and weapons.
